Why freight insurance is not optional for glass display cabinets

Glass travels a long way to reach you, and freight is the one part of the journey nobody fully controls. We crate every cabinet to survive it — but on rare occasions a carrier drops, crushes or mishandles a shipment. When that happens, freight insurance is the difference between a quick replacement and an expensive, drawn-out dispute. Here's why we treat it as essential, not optional.

The risk is real, even when it's rare

Our crating and strapping mean damage in transit is uncommon. But "uncommon" isn't "never" — freight networks handle enormous volumes, cabinets change hands multiple times, and glass is inherently fragile. When a large panel does break in transit, the cost isn't trivial. Insurance exists precisely for the low-probability, high-cost event.

Carrier liability is not the same as cover

A common misunderstanding is that the freight company automatically pays for anything they break. In reality, standard carrier liability is heavily limited — often capped at a small amount per kilogram, with fragile goods like glass frequently excluded or restricted. Without dedicated freight insurance, a broken cabinet can leave you carrying most or all of the loss.

It costs far less than the risk it removes

Freight insurance is a small percentage of the order value — a minor line item next to the cost of replacing a broken cabinet and waiting for a second build and delivery. For custom and larger cabinets especially, that maths is one-sided. Paying a little to remove a large downside is simply good business.

What to do if something arrives damaged

Inspect the crates before you sign, note any visible damage on the delivery paperwork, and photograph the packaging and contents straight away. Keep everything until the claim is resolved. With insurance in place and those few steps done, replacing a damaged cabinet is quick and painless — which is exactly the point.
